Checking for a Warrant in Choctaw County
There is no single search box for Choctaw County warrant checks. Everything depends on which court holds the paper. A citation points toward Justice Court or a town court, while a felony complaint belongs to Circuit Court. Work the channels in order, because the sheriff and the clerk do not answer the same question about an active warrant.
- Read the citation, summons, or court notice and find the issuing court printed on it.
- For a Justice Court citation, try the Choctaw County citation portal, then call the clerk at 662-285-3599.
- For a circuit criminal file, call Circuit Clerk Amy Burdine at 662-285-6245.
- For an Ackerman town matter, call 662-840-9185 or the town clerk at 662-285-6251.
- Call the Sheriff's Office at 662-285-6129 about service and custody status.
- If no office answers by phone, ask for the in person route or file a written records request.
Note: Choctaw County callers cannot self-serve here; the state's DPS Criminal Information Center carries wants and warrants for officers only.
Start at the Jail House Road Offices
Two of Choctaw County's most useful doors sit a few hundred feet apart. The 2026 Secretary of State county offices directory lists the Choctaw County Sheriff's Office at 122 Jail House Road in Ackerman, while the Justice Court Clerk and both justice judges sit at 140 Jail House Road. Same road, two different records. The sheriff executes process and runs the jail; the clerk keeps the lower court file.
Those small numbers shape access. A county this size staffs no warrant division, bond window, or all-night records counter, so call before driving to Ackerman.
Choctaw County Warrant Types
The word warrant covers several different court commands, and mixing them up sends a Choctaw County caller to the wrong clerk. An arrest warrant follows a charging affidavit; a bench warrant follows a court event that did not happen; a capias commands custody of a person; and a capias pro fine covers an unpaid fine.
| Warrant Type | How It Arises | Who Issues It |
|---|---|---|
| Arrest warrant | Charging affidavit and a judge's signature under Rule 3.2 | Circuit, Justice, or Ackerman Municipal Court within its jurisdiction |
| Bench warrant | Missed appearance, contempt, or failure to obey an order | The judge over the underlying case |
| Capias or capias pro fine | Failure to appear, unpaid fine, or a post judgment obligation | The court that entered the judgment |
| Search warrant | Probable cause to search a place, person, or thing | An authorized judge; applications may be sealed |
Federal process is a separate lane. Choctaw County sits in the Northern District of Mississippi, Aberdeen Division, beyond a county clerk's reach.
The Citation Lookup That Actually Works
One real local interface exists. The Choctaw County Justice Court portal names clerk Teresa Weeks at 140 Jailhouse Road in Ackerman and lists the 662-285-3599 line. It asks for a single field, the Citation number, and any letter it carries counts: the portal's own example reads 123456A. If a citation starts with a zero and the lookup fails, try again without that zero. A fresh ticket may need five days to post. Know the portal's limits, though. It has no name field, no date of birth search, and no status filter, so a no-result answer can mean a typo, a posting delay, or a different court. Anyone working from a ticket should read the Choctaw County traffic warrant guidance first.
Inside a Choctaw County Warrant Record
Mississippi Rule of Criminal Procedure 3.2, reproduced in the Judicial College justice court manual, sets the shape of an arrest warrant. Choctaw County publishes no warrant number format of its own. The sample below shows structure only.
| Warrant number | Court identifier, shaped like 2024-CR-00000; the local pattern is unpublished |
|---|---|
| Case or cause number | Circuit cause number, justice court case, or citation number |
| Subject identity | Complete name, or a description certain enough to identify a person |
| Offense charged | The charge, with felony, misdemeanor, or ordinance class where shown |
| Issuing authority | The judge who signed it and the court that controls it |
| Release direction | Personal recognizance, appearance bond, secured bond, or no bond |
| Status and return | Issued, served, returned, recalled, quashed, or sealed |
Sealed matters, youth court files, and protected personal data may be redacted or withheld.
Three Calls That Identify the Court
When the paper is lost or never arrived, a short cross-check settles which office owns the question in Choctaw County. Place the calls yourself using directory numbers. Note who you spoke with and the exact status words used.
- Justice Court Clerk Katelyn Newman, 662-285-3599, for citations and lower court process.
- Circuit Clerk Amy Burdine, 662-285-6245, for circuit criminal files.
- Sheriff Brandon Busby's office, 662-285-6129, for whether a process is out for service.
If the event happened inside a town, add that town clerk to the list.
Issuing and Serving Warrants in Choctaw County
Courts issue warrants, officers serve them, and the two never trade places. A judge signs the process, and that court's clerk keeps the file. The sheriff, a constable, a municipal officer, or another officer authorized by Mississippi law executes it and files a return. Choctaw County runs two constable posts. A sheriff holding a process does not move the case file out of the issuing clerk's office.
Choctaw County Sheriff's Office
122 Jail House Road
Ackerman, MS 39735
662-285-6129
The sheriff lists no warrant division, bond window, or 24 hour line. Circuit Clerk Amy Burdine keeps the circuit criminal files at P.O. Box 34 in Ackerman, 662-285-6245, with the district block on the Fifth Circuit court information page.
Choctaw County Warrant Status Words
The Fifth Circuit publishes the status vocabulary that appears on a Mississippi docket, and knowing the words helps a caller ask a sharper question about a Choctaw County warrant. A label is not a clerk's confirmation. The Fifth Circuit court information page lists Choctaw County and shows that interface.

The labels below come from that page, which also confirms the Choctaw courthouse contact.
- Active or outstanding
- A process no court or law enforcement system has recorded as served, recalled, or closed.
- Bench Warrant Issued
- The judge directed a warrant, usually after a missed appearance or a disobeyed order.
- Bench Warrant Returned
- An officer filed a return of service. Returned does not mean recalled or cleared.
- Capias Pending
- A capias process is still open; ask the clerk what payment, hearing, or motion resolves it.
- Recalled or quashed
- The court withdrew the process. Ask for a docket entry showing it.
If You Have a Warrant in Choctaw County
Resolution starts with the issuing court. Call the clerk and ask four things: is the process active, what type is it, what is the case number, and what does the court accept to resolve it? The usual remedies are a voluntary appearance, payment where allowed, a bond, or a motion to recall. Choctaw County publishes no surrender sheet, recall form, or bond schedule, so the clerk's answer is the only reliable instruction on clearing an outstanding warrant.
Important: Talk to a lawyer before surrendering, and never pay a caller by gift card, wire, or app to make a warrant go away.
Paying a citation online in Choctaw County does not prove a warrant was recalled. Ask whether payment closes the matter.
Four Incorporated Places, Not Five
Four incorporated places belong to Choctaw County in the state's municipal government directory: Ackerman, French Camp, Mathiston, and Weir. Mathiston straddles the line. It sits partly in Webster County too, so a Mathiston citation may belong to either county's courts. For judges, the 2026 state judiciary directory lists only Ackerman as having a municipal judge. The other three simply lack a directory entry, not necessarily a local process. Each town's clerk can say where its citations get filed.
Choctaw County Warrant Records and Public Access
Mississippi's public records law presumes openness unless an exemption applies, with redaction and fees allowed. A Choctaw County warrant request goes to whichever office holds the record you want. The sheriff holds service and booking material. The Circuit Clerk keeps circuit criminal files, the Justice Court Clerk holds lower court papers, and each town clerk keeps that town's own records.
Key Rules:
Miss. Code § 25-61-1 - states the Mississippi Public Records Act of 1983 and its open access policy.
Miss. Code § 25-61-5 - sets how a public body must answer or deny a records request.
Miss. Code § 25-61-11 - carries the exemptions that can keep part of a file closed.
Miss. Code §§ 43-21-251 and 43-21-255 - protect youth court and juvenile law enforcement records.
Remote court access runs on its own fee schedule. The PAMEC public access terms charge a $10 annual registration plus $0.20 per page, and a one page charge applies even to an empty search. Choctaw County files can be read free at the clerk's counter.

Keep those fee terms in mind: paying for a no match result tells you nothing about whether Choctaw County process exists.
A Choctaw County Warrant Payment Call
The caller claims a Choctaw County warrant is out in your name and demands money immediately. Hang on. No official source authorizes remote payment to lift a warrant anywhere, and none says the sheriff phones people to collect. Treat every such call the same way.
- Hang up without confirming your name, date of birth, or any account detail.
- Look up the office number yourself instead of calling back the number you were given.
- Dial the Sheriff's Office at 662-285-6129 or the clerk of the court you believe holds the case.
- Ask how that office verifies a warrant and what the court accepts to resolve one.
Note: no Choctaw County office takes gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or payment apps to clear a warrant.
Choctaw County and Statewide Warrant Searches
Mississippi has no single statewide site that lists every warrant. The Criminal Information Center connects the state to the FBI's National Crime Information Center, which does carry wants and warrants. That system serves authorized agencies, though. Even when an officer gets a hit, the agency that entered the record must verify it. No public statewide warrant search exists for Choctaw County or anywhere else in Mississippi. A clerk or the sheriff is where confirmation comes from. For the channel by channel walkthrough, see the Choctaw County warrant lookup routes.
Choctaw County Warrants by City
Choctaw County towns run their own courts. A municipal judge can issue a warrant for ordinance, traffic, or minor criminal cases, and that paper stays in the town's files rather than the county Justice Court portal. So a Choctaw County warrant search at the county level may miss a municipal warrant entirely. Four incorporated places sit inside Choctaw County, and each one gets its own page here.
